HIGH SCHOOL
The Class Teacher/Class Guardian structure develops and supports the relationship between teachers and students that is a hallmark of Steiner education.
At Shearwater, the Class Guardians guide the same Class group from Term 4 of Class 7 to Year 12. The role of the Class Guardian is both pastoral and educational. Guardians may only teach the class for part of the year. However, it is the Guardians’ role to schedule the class learning program; attend to the students’ individual learning needs; support them with personal difficulties as they arise; organise excursions, camps and field trips; coordinate parent liaison; monitor individual students’ progress and coordinate the bi-annual reporting of student progress.
HIGH SCHOOL
We get our students out in the world with our comprehensive field trip program which includes First Nations perspectives, wilderness experiences, bush regeneration and farm to fork education. When asked to recall their favourite memories of their High School years, most of our graduates agree that the camps are a highlight! Snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef; walking Tasmania’s pristine wilderness; sleeping out under the stars; snow-shoeing in the alpine back country, building independence, resilience and community.
HIGH SCHOOL
While the majority of our Year 11 and 12 students complete the NSW senior school credential, the HSC, here at Shearwater we also offer an alternative pathway, allowing students a more individual and project-based learning experience. The Shearwater Certificate provides students with a year-long journey working with mentors in their field and exploring an area of passion — a unique opportunity for students to complete their journey through our ‘learning village’ in a truly holistic way.
See our Senior School Subject Guide for more information on the Shearwater Certificate and other alternate pathways on offer at Shearwater.
